Secretaries to work from home as Ricksons Deploy WinScribe Firm-wide
London, 6 May 2004 - An initiative by progressive north-west law firm,
Ricksons, will see secretaries working from home as part of a firm-wide
roll-out of the WinScribe digital dictation workflow system from SRC
across the firm's Leeds, Preston and Manchester offices.
The SRC WinScribe solution will be rolled-out in three phases to 150
staff in the three offices, starting with an initial phase of 22 staff
in the Leeds-based Personal Injury department.
"As with most law firms, our office space is at a premium and we needed
a solution that would allow the firm to grow without requiring increased
accommodation, the introduction of the SRC WinScribe digital dictation
solution will easily enable this growth," said Anthony Hughes, managing
partner at Ricksons.
In addition to using the SRC WinScribe solution in the office, Ricksons'
fee earners and partners will be able to work remotely using handheld
devices or telephones. The firm's secretaries will be given a PC and
broadband connection for home working, providing much better working
flexibility and a reduction in personal travel costs.
"Not only will this investment deliver improved working conditions for
our staff and increased efficiency of support services, it will also
deliver significant increases in client service through reduced document
turnaround times," said Mr Hughes.
"We've been delighted by the reaction from our staff, which has seen
secretaries queuing up to work from home," he continued.
Mr Hughes said that Ricksons had been considering introducing digital
dictation for sometime, but needed a solution that could work with the
firm's Citrix nFuse thin client environment, which had not been possible
until WinScribe announced last month that the latest version of the
system supported Citrix thin client environments.
"Of the competing systems we evaluated, WinScribe was clearly the most
flexible, providing sophisticated management functions alongside a
simple, easy-to-use interface for fee earners and secretaries," Mr
Hughes said.
Ricksons will also integrate WinScribe with the firm's Axxia case
management system, further reducing the reliance on paper files. Mr
Hughes said that WinScribe's API's, which allow easy integration with
other applications, was also a key factor in the firm's decision to
choose the SRC WinScribe solution.
"We're delighted that the SRC WinScribe solution is enabling Ricksons to
improve working flexibility for its staff and increase client service
levels," added Chris Hart, SRC CEO.
"WinScribe has worked closely with Citrix to deliver a high-quality,
robust solution for thin client environments like that used at Ricksons
and we are looking forward to helping other firms to capitalise on the
benefits this important development enables."
